One more month until the South Tyrol swim meeting

Exactly one month before the 27th edition on November 4th and 5th, the South Tyrol Swim Meeting was presented on Thursday at the SSV Bozen club headquarters on Fagenstrasse.

For 26 years, SSV Bozen has been organizing the first important short course meeting of the season in Italy on the first weekend in November in the Albert Pircher Hall at the Pfarrhof. That will also be the case this year, with one highlight following the next. All eyes are of course on the Summer Olympics in Paris (27.

July to August 4, 2024), but there are numerous other highlights in the international calendar.

Made a name for himself all over the world

Bolzano has made a name for itself all over the world over the years. The swim meeting in the much too small and narrow hall is unique and many world-class athletes have shown great achievements in the incomparable atmosphere. Olympic champions, world champions and European champions were guests in Bolzano. In the last two years, the Swiss Noè Ponti has been the big star with a total of seven wins; last year alone he won five times. The 22-year-old from Locarno was Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo in the 100 m dolphin. He won silver in the 50 m dolphin and bronze in the 200 m dolphin at the Short Course World Championships in Australia last year. Only at the World Cup in Fukuoka this summer did things not go quite as planned. His best result was 7th place in the 100 m dolphin.

“It won’t be so easy for Ponti to repeat his five victories from last year this year,” says meeting boss Christian Mattivi. Because Simone Stefanì from Italy defeated Ponti in the 2021 m dolphin in Bolzano in 100. The back specialist from Apulia won gold in the 50 and 100 m backstroke at this year's Universiade in Chengdu, China. He also triumphed in the back sprint at the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Algeria.

Lots of swimming celebrities

In addition to Ponti, the organizers of the Swimeeting South Tyrol were able to present other well-known participants from abroad today. Rachel Bernhardt, a strong US breaststroke swimmer, is coming to the Talferstadt and has hopes of taking part in next year's World Championships in Doha. With her time of 1.07,38:28 minutes, the 100-year-old is in fifth place in the US annual ranking for the 5 m breaststroke. Charlotte Bonnet, a well-known swimmer from France, has also confirmed her participation in Bolzano.

Competition program unchanged

The competition program remains the same as in previous years
unchanged. The fastest 3 series (top 24 of the entry list in each discipline) will be shown separately in concentrated form, meaning that spectators can often admire the stars of the event several times within a very short space of time. On Saturday between 16 p.m. and 18 p.m. and on Sunday between 13 p.m. and 15 p.m.
