Several world records in one day

Sarah Sjoestroem and Ruta Meilutyte set world records in the 50 meter freestyle and 50 meter breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships. The Australian 4x100 meter freestyle mixed relay set the third world record of the day

In the semi-finals in Fukuoka, Japan on Saturday, the Swede Sjoestroem beat her own record from 2017 by four hundredths of a second to 23,61 seconds. Sjoestroem had recently become world champion in the 50 meter butterfly.


The Lithuanian Meilutyte also equaled the world record of the Italian Benedetta Pilato from 29,30 in the semi-finals in the breaststroke section in 2021 seconds.

In the final final of the evening session, the Australian 4x100 meter freestyle mixed relay team set the third world record of the day. The new record, achieved by Jack Cartwright, Kyle Chalmers, Shayna Jack and Mollie O'Callaghan, is 3:18,83 minutes.
