Successful young Merano swimmers in Spresiano: The Meranese have done well among the northeast Italian clubs.

Successful young swimmers from Meran

On Sunday, March 10th, the youth group of SC Meran took part in the 5th “Trofeo Primavera” in the swimming pool of Spresiano (province of Treviso). The club finished 9th among 19 clubs from Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige.

Of the 14 athletes who entered the water, 46,5 points were won, including two bronze medals, namely Sorrenti Silas in the 50 backstroke for beginners B and Nora Höllrigl in the 200 freestyle for beginners A. This was an excellent experience for all the young people of the Sports Club Merano, especially since the competition in Spresiano is an intermediate stage with regard to the last event of the winter, ie the national championships (beginners), which will take place on April 6th and 7th at the Pfarrhof swimming pool in Bolzano.

“The aim is to have the very young athletes (beginners B and A) take part in various competitions outside the province so that they can gain the necessary experience to grow in the competitions,” said SCM head coach Claudio Priamo. “At this age, competition is the best training, and increasing the number of competitions is very helpful in pursuing this goal.”

The Merano team, consisting of 14 children between the ages of 7 and 12, took part in 28 individual competitions and relays. Despite this small group of children, the first section of the competition, dedicated to the youngest (beginners B), ended with sixth place out of 19 present.

- Silas Sorrenti was third in the 50 backstroke and sixth in the 100 freestyle;

– Laurin Markt also did very well and took 5th place in the 50 breaststroke with a photo finish, just a tenth of a second behind third place, and 24th in the 50 backstroke.

– Among the men, Schönweger Noah was 39* over 50 backstroke.

– In the women’s category, Jasmin Holzner showed a very good performance and took 50th place in both the 50 butterfly and 5 backstroke, a personal best in both disciplines.

– Also very good were Penasa Mara 13^ in the 50 breaststroke and 32^ in the 50 freestyle;

– Nikolov Kaia 16^ in the 50 freestyle and 20^ in the 100;

– Cervo Giada 28^ in the 50 back;

Goetsch Eva Marie 40^ in the 50 freestyle and 42^ in the 50 breaststroke.
A small downside was 4th place in the girls' mixed 4x59 relay, which swam past the podium by less than a second. Nevertheless, all the young people coped well with this difficult journey, giving their best and certainly bringing home a good experience.

In the afternoon the beginners A went into the water, of which the SCM provided six women and one man. The start was made by Nora Höllrigl, who took third place in the 200 freestyle with a personal best time of 2.21.6 in a head-to-head race with four competitors. Nora also placed 5th in the 100 freestyle.

– Among her teammates, Pozzato Silvia placed 31st in the 200 freestyle and 23rd in the 100 butterfly.

– Pircher Leni was 24th in the 100 butterfly and 13th in the 100 freestyle.

– Pompili Federica achieved a personal best of 48th in the 100 medley and 32nd in the 100 freestyle.

– Kapfinger Sofie was 53rd in the 100 backstroke and 35th in the 100 freestyle.

– Sliusarchuk Kyrylo, the only male SCM swimmer, placed 27th in the 200 backstroke and 22nd in the 100 backstroke in his first year of competition.
