Merano back in Serie A

The Play Off of the Badminton Team Championships took place on May 13th and 14th in Maracalagonis (Sardinia). After a successful season, SC Meran ASV was also at the start.

In the Serie B play-offs, the best four teams in the group stage fight against each other for promotion to Italy's top league. One match in each category is played per match: women's doubles, men's doubles, women's singles, men's singles and mixed doubles. There is one point for every game won. In addition to the experienced athletes, youth players Karl Ladurner (14), Frieda Larcher (14) and Leni Ladurner (13) celebrated their debut in Serie B this season.

On Saturday Meran had to prove itself against the teams from Alba and Modena. The first encounter was lost 3-2, with the women's singles and men's doubles narrowly losing in the third set. Against the team from Modena, who, among other things, flew in two strong Bulgarians as reinforcements, the South Tyroleans showed their skills and won the encounter 3-2 with some exciting matches.

Before the second matchday on Sunday, promotion was still in the balance as three of the four teams were tied on points. In order to make it into Serie A on their own, a 4-1 win against Messina was required. In a hard-fought match, former national player Pirmin Klotzner was able to get the fourth point with his win against junior national player Luca Bellazzi. This catapulted Meran to first place in the play-offs and into Serie A.
