Will Red Bull lose design genius Newey?

According to consistent media reports, chief designer Adrian Newey is about to leave the Austrian-British Formula 1 racing team Red Bull Racing early.

As “Auto Motor und Sport” and the BBC reported on Thursday, the mastermind behind the “Bulls” world champion car is said to be aiming for a team change at the end of the season because of the spicy issue surrounding team boss Christian Horner. The 65-year-old Brit's contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2025.

Ferrari is said to be the favorite for a commitment, and record world champion Lewis Hamilton will also drive for the Scuderia from next season. Aston Martin is also said to have courted the Englishman in the past. Newey has been working at Red Bull Racing since 2006 and is responsible for the design of the Red Bull car, which has been dominant for many years. Newey had previously made a name for himself at Williams and McLaren.

As Red Bull's chief designer, Newey no longer works exclusively on the energy drink manufacturer's Formula 1 project, but is also involved in the development of the RB17 hypercar. However, he is said to no longer want to fully immerse himself in this project. For Red Bull Racing, Newey's early departure would be a bitter blow in view of the rule revolution from the 2026 season.

Horner was recently accused of inappropriate behavior by an employee. After an investigation initiated by parent company Red Bull, the complaint was dismissed. As a result, a power struggle developed between the Austrian and Thai ownership sides of Red Bull.
