Italian Paolini triumphs in Dubai

The Italian Jasmine Paolini won the WTA tournament in Dubai. This means she will make a huge leap forward in the world rankings.

In a thrilling final against Anna Kalinskaja (RUS), Paolini prevailed in 3 sets. After the first set went to the Russian 6:4, the Italian hit back and won 7:5. Paolini is only the third Italian woman to win a WTA 1000 tournament. Flavia Pennetta (2014 in Indian Wells) and Camila Giorgi (2021 in Montreal) had previously achieved this.

With the triumph in Dubai, Paolini will make a big leap forward in the world rankings. The 28-year-old Tuscan is currently number 26, but from Monday she will be in 14th place in the WTA rankings.
