Obereggen: Myhrer and Hargin lead the top European Cup field

None other than the second and sixth place finishers from the World Cup slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday lead the provisional entry list for the prestigious European Cup slalom in Obereggen, which will take place on the Oberholz piste on Wednesday. We're talking about the Swede Matthias Hargin and his compatriot and Obereggen record winner Andre Myhrer. The line-up at the oldest European Cup race in the world is also strong this year, when the event celebrates its 30th birthday. The first run starts at 10 a.m., the second run starts at 13 p.m.

The “Azzurri” registered last year's runner-up Stefano Gross, the reigning Olympic champion (and 2009 winner) Giuliano Razzoli, Cristian Deville, Riccardo Tonetti and the fourth-place finisher from St. Vigil Giordano Ronci.

On paper, the Scandinavians are the Azzurri's fiercest rivals, especially the Swedes. Matthias Hargin, fifth in Levi and second in Val d'Isere, traditionally drives well in Obereggen and has third place in 2009 as his best Oberholz result. Olympic bronze medalist Andre Myhrer has already won in Obereggen four times (2004, 2005, 2007, 2010) and took sixth place in Val d'Isere on Sunday. Markus Larsson finished fifth in Val d'Isere on Sunday, while Axel Baeck is currently second in the Slalom European Cup standings.

The Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen, on the other hand, comes to Obereggen as the leader of the overall European Cup standings. Other interesting names include the Japanese Naoki Yuasa, the Canadian Michael Janyk and the Austrian defending champion Manuel Feller.
