Passler and Giacomel clinched the Italian championship title

The Italian Biathlon Championships will take place in Antholz this weekend. With the exception of Lisa Vittozzi and Dorothea Wierer, all World Cup athletes are at the start. These set the tone in the mass start.

After the Italian champions in the youth categories were determined in the morning, it was the turn of Italy's biathlon stars in the afternoon. The big winners were: Rebecca Passler and Tommaso Giacomel.

The 22-year-old won in difficult conditions thanks to her bravura on the shooting range. Passler only missed one of 20 targets and thereby outclassed the competition. Michela Carrara in second place, who missed a total of five times, was over a minute behind at the finish. Giorgia Saracco, just 2 years old, came third and, like Passler, made a mistake.

Giacomel is outstanding on the cross-country ski trail

There was a favorite victory for the men - even though Tommaso Giacomel didn't have a good day at the shooting range. The Trentino driver had to go into the penalty loop six times. Thanks to his running ability, no one could get close to him. Behind them were Nicola Romanin (one mistake) and Didier Bionaz, who missed four times. Lukas Hofer had to settle for fourth place after six mistakes.
