TICKER | Zingerle and Azzurri on the podium in the IBU Cup

There's a lot on the program in winter sports on Sunday too: What's happening outside of the big World Cup decisions in biathlon, alpine skiing and the like can be found in our winter sports ticker.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: Johannes Klaebo again and again: The Norwegian superstar won the freestyle sprint at the World Cup in Lahti, Finland. In the final he relegated the Frenchman Lucas Chanavat to second place. The Swiss Valerio Grond finished third and made it onto the podium in an individual race for the first time in his career. Federico Pellegrino ended up in 2th place as the best Azzurro. Michael Hellweger from Sarner, who qualified for the knockout phase of the best 3 in 5th place, failed in the quarterfinals and was ranked 12th. In the women's category, Sweden's Jonna Sundling won ahead of her two compatriots Linn Svahn and Johanna Hagstroem.

BIATHLON: At the IBU Cup in Obertilliach (East Tyrol), the Azzurri took second place in the mixed relay, 2:1.15,3 minutes behind the victorious Norwegian relay. At the start were Astrid Plosh, Francesca Brocchiero, Nicola Romanin and David Zingerle from Antholz. Third place went to France (+3). In the single mixed relay, however, there was nothing to gain for the Azzurri. Birgit Schölzhorn and Daniele Cappellari from Ridnaun ended up in 1.27th place, 9 minutes behind the winning Norwegian duo Karoline Erdal and Martin Nevland.

BOB: At the four-man bobsleigh World Championships in Winterberg (GER), Patrick Baumgartner and Co. landed in 7th place. The bobsleigh pilot from Issing (Pfalzen municipality) started with Eric Fantazzini, Robert Mircea and Lorenzo Bilotti. After 4 runs, the Azzurri were 2,06 seconds behind the victorious German quartet led by pilot Francesco Friedrich (with Thorsten Margis, Alexander Schüller and Felix Straub). Johannes Locher (with Florian Bauer, Erec Bruckert and Georg Fleischhauer) took second place (+2). Adam Ammour (with Issam Ammour, Benedikt Hertel and Rupert Schenk) completed the German triple victory in 0,88rd place (+3).

In the women's two-man bobsleigh, Anna Schenk from Val Gardena, piloted by Katrin Beierl for Austria, came in 13th. The winning German duo with pilot Lisa Buckwitz and brakewoman Vanessa Mark were 2,82 seconds behind.

NORDIC COMBINATION: The Nordic combined athletes Johannes Lamparter and Stefan Rettenegger secured an Austrian double victory in Lahti in the absence of World Cup dominator Jarl Magnus Riiber. Lamparter relegated Rettenegger to second place in the finish sprint. Third place went to Kristjan Ilves from Latvia (+2). Raffaele Buzzi ended up as the best Azzurro in 3rd place (+51,8). The Val Gardena natives Aaron Kostner and Samuel Costa landed on ranks 23 (+2.55,7) and 25 (+3.05,3).

SKI JUMPING: Ski jumper Jan Hörl won the second individual competition in Lahti and celebrated his third individual victory in the World Cup. The Austrian successfully defended his half-time lead ahead of Slovenian veteran Peter Prevc and podium debutant Aleksander Zniszczol from Poland. After jumps of 124 and 134,5 m, Hörl had 1,9 points more than Prevc. Alex Insam from Val Gardena landed in 117,5th place with jumps of 103,9 and 29 meters.
