Hammer! New ski jumping world record in Iceland

World-class athlete Ryoyu Kobayashi tested the limits of ski flying and amazed the entire winter sports world. And all in a bizarre place.

On Wednesday, the Japanese flew 291 m from the facility built on a mountain on a makeshift ski jump.

This can be seen, among other things, in a video on Kobayashi's Instagram account. The distance set is 37,5 m above Kraft's world record. Even before that, the 27-year-old was an Olympic champion in Beijing, according to the national broadcaster RUV landed at 256 m.

According to reports, the Hlidarfjall ski area was temporarily closed for the record hunt. According to the broadcaster, Kobayashi's main sponsor signed a contract with the city of Akureyri for the construction of the ski jump. The energy drink company, which had such plans a few years ago, will accompany the whole thing with several drones and cameras.

However, world records are only recognized in official competitions. After the closure of the Harrachov airfield, there are only four ski flying hills left in the world where World Cup flying takes place: the Kulm in Austria, Kraft's world record hill in Vikersund in Norway, Planica in Slovenia and Oberstdorf in Germany.
