Four young sledders want to cause a sensation at the Junior World Championships

Theo Gruber and Fabian Malleier will fight for precious metal in the juniors. The man from Villandro has already qualified for a senior World Cup race twice this season (Igls and Königsee), but the man from Völlan has recovered well from the injury he sustained during training at the beginning of the season. Meanwhile, the women's hopes rest on Andrea Vötter and Sandra Robatscher, who celebrated a South Tyrolean double victory in last year's title fights in Igls.

The local athletes are also among the medal candidates at this year's World Championships in Lillehammer, as they seem to be able to cope well on the fast Olympic track from 1994. But the competition isn't bad either. “There are several top-class athletes who have already made people take notice with good results in the Senior World Cup, such as the superior Lake Placid winner Tucker West in the men’s race or the Canadians John Fennell and Mitchel Malyk. But the Russians, Germans and Austrians should not be underestimated either. According to the training times, our girls’ biggest opponents also come from Russia, Germany and Austria,” says junior coach Klaus Kofler.

Kofler: “The entire team is very confident”

It is the first international junior race of the current season for all four local representatives. “We had to skip the overseas races for financial reasons, which is why we haven't had a direct comparison with the other nations yet. But we will try to make the most of the next training days and then see what happens in the end. The entire team is very confident and can hardly wait for it to finally get started on Friday,” concluded the coach from Kastelbell.

The Junior World Championships will open on January 16th with the junior men's and women's single-seater competitions. On Saturday, however, the double-seater race and the team relay are on the program. Robatscher and Vötter will rejoin the A team after the title fights, while the junior team will then go to the last Junior World Cups of the season in Oberhof (which is also considered the European Championship), Igls and Winterberg.
