Title defended! Vötter/Oberhofer get the ball

Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer have struck again: The two toboggan aces from South Tyrol won the overall ranking at the World Cup final in Sigulda. They remain the best toboggan duo in the world!

For the third time, a World Cup season was held for the women's doubles, and for the second time the overall winners were Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer. They fended off all attacks on their top position at the end of the year in Latvia on Saturday.

Kind of crazy: Vötter/Oberhofer were not on the podium in Sigulda for the second time this winter, but the German duo Degenhardt/Rosenthal raced to their sixth victory of the season. In the end, the two Azzurre held the ball in their hands. How can that be? The 28-year-old Vötter from Völs, a former world-class single-seater luger, and her teammate from Rodeneck, who is five years younger than her, were more consistent this winter than any other team.

With fourth place in the last race, they secured their second overall World Cup victory within 12 months. For Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal it was just a matter of defending second place in the ranking. They finally succeeded in winning the day. They held their own against their German compatriots Dajana Eitberger and Saskia Schirmer, who took second place. Selina Egle and Lara Michaela Kipp (Austria) took third place ahead of Vötter/Oberhofer.

Rieder/Gufler in seventh place

In the men's doubles, the young Latvians Martins Bots and Roberts Plume celebrated a home win on Saturday morning. Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt took second place, followed by Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl. The two Austrians became the new overall World Cup winners.

The best Azzurri were Ludwig Rieder and Lukas Gufler, who finished seventh with two consistent runs. Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner had to settle for eleventh place.
