“You’re not listening”: Silent protest from Super Bowl champion Jenkins

Philadelphia (SID) Super Bowl winner Malcolm Jenkins typically fights loudly for social justice. But after US President Donald Trump canceled the traditional reception in the White House, the Philadelphia Eagles football professional decided to stage a silent protest. Instead of speaking at a press conference, the 30-year-old held up signs. Jenkins began with the message "You're not listening," followed by "More than 60 percent of the people in prison are people of color." The safety cited additional facts about social inequality in the United States, gave reasons for reforming the justice system and gave examples of the commitment of many NFL professionals to social justice initiatives. In between, he kept holding up the sign "You're not listening," even when one of the reporters asked him at the end who wasn't listening. Jenkins also criticized the anthem debate, which in his opinion took up too much space in the US media and left little space for the reasons for the protests. Trump withdrew the invitation to the champions of the US professional league NFL on Monday - probably after he learned that only a few players had come. "They are arguing with their president simply because he insists that they stand with their hands over their hearts during the anthem to honor the great men and women of our military and the people of our country," was Trump's reason for the cancellation. However, no Philadelphia Eagles player took a knee during the national anthem last season to protest racism, social injustice and police violence.
