James attacks Brees: “You still don’t get it?”

“I will never agree with anyone disrespecting the flag of the United States or our country,” Brees said Yahoo , sparked a clear reaction in the sports world and apologized the next day.

Numerous players then followed his example. Brees regrets statements On Thursday, Brees spoke out after a shitstorm on social media. The professional posted a photo on Instagram showing a handshake between a black man and a white man. “I want to apologize to my friends, my teammates, the city of New Orleans, the Black community, the NFL community and everyone I hurt with my comments,” Brees wrote.

He made “insensitive” statements and stands behind the black community in the fight against racial injustice and police violence. “I ask your forgiveness,” Brees concluded his statement.

The death of the black man George Floyd after an arrest in Minneapolis caused the issue to flare up again, and many sports stars recently raised their voices and took part in protests. NBA star Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors took to the streets in California on Wednesday.

“Is everything okay in our country? No it's not. We still have a long way to go,” said Brees, who led the Saints to a Super Bowl win in 2010. But he has problems with protests during the anthem. “When I look at the US flag, I think of my two grandfathers who fought for this country in World War II,” said Brees: “If you pay respect to the flag standing with your hand on your heart, that is a A sign of solidarity.”

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers responded on Instagram, but did not mention Brees by name. “It was never about the anthem or the flag. Not then, and not now.” Brees’ teammates also spoke up. “We don’t care if you disagree,” wide receiver Michael Thomas tweeted. Safety Malcolm Jenkins wrote: “If you don’t understand how hurtful and insensitive your comments are, you are part of the problem. I’m disappointed and hurt.”
