After the shooting, the dancers were also said to have been asked to accompany male sponsors to a nightclub. All of this happened during a week-long trip to Costa Rica, and the cheerleaders allegedly weren't even paid for it. "It's just not right to let cheerleaders go out with strange men, especially when some of them don't want to," one affected person was quoted as saying in the Times: "Unfortunately, nothing will change until something terrible happens, until one girl is attacked or raped." The Redskins used to have an annual boat trip, which was apparently a must for the cheerleaders. Sponsors are said to have paid the girls cash in dance competitions. The club rejected the allegations. The Redskins said their program is one of the best in the NFL. Fans could be proud of the girls' work. Another reaction was later published. "The Redskins are very concerned about the allegations. We are addressing them and taking them seriously. We have heard very different first-hand accounts over the last 48 hours that contradict many of the details in the article," the statement said . Last month, two former NFL cheerleaders filed a lawsuit against the league for, among other things, discrimination, sexual harassment, underpayment and unpaid overtime. The women want to withdraw them in return for a payment of one dollar each if NFL boss Roger Goodell and the league's lawyers agree to a meeting.
