Star quarterback gives up a lot of money

Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers has signed a new contract in the National Football League with the New York Jets and is waiving up to $35 million (31,65 million euros) over the next two years.

Several US media outlets report this unanimously. Accordingly, the four-time MVP signed an adjusted two-year contract with a total of $75 million (€67,82 million), which is fully guaranteed. Ideally, his previous contract could have brought him a guaranteed sum of almost $110 million (99,47 million euros).

The 39-year-old Rodgers moved from the Green Bay Packers to New York in a trade after the end of last season. He won his only Super Bowl to date with the Packers in February 2011.

As is usual in the NFL, when players are transferred, their contracts are retained and transferred to the new team. However, Rodgers' original contract would have severely limited the Jets' freedom of action due to the league's salary cap.
