Trump shoots again against NFL: No salary for anthem protest

New York (SID) US President Donald Trump has once again intervened in the debate about the anthem protests in the US professional league NFL via Twitter. "The anthem debate in the NFL has picked up steam again - I can't believe it. The Commissioner has to take action now. Once on his knees, one game suspension. Twice on his knees, out of season/no pay," he wrote. The NFL and the NFLPA players' union had put the new regulation on anthem protests on hold for the time being, thereby provoking a comment from the president. NFLPA President Eric Winston reacted calmly to Trump's latest comments: "Thank you for your thoughts, but we'll take it from here," said Winston. The NFL recently decided that kneeling and other acts of protest during the playing of the US anthem will be banned in the future and that professionals will instead only be allowed to express their protest by staying in the locker room. The NFLPA then filed a complaint. Now both organizations are working together on a new solution. Steve Tisch, co-owner of the New York Giants, does not want to punish his players if they protest against social injustice and racism. Tisch also didn't shy away from criticizing Trump: "He has no idea why they're kneeling or why they're even protesting. When the season starts, I hope he has other things to do than criticize the NFL and the owners telling them what to do and what not to do," Tisch said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
