Badminton: SSV Bozen is getting closer to the playoffs

For SSV Bozen, surprise was in the air. As expected, the guests took a 1-0 lead with a three-set win in the women's doubles by Claudia Gruber and Vlada Cherniavskaya. Just as planned, Milan was able to equalize 1-1 with the men's doubles. Then came the preliminary women's singles. Gruber didn't have her best day. This time, the 23-year-old from Bolzano failed relatively clearly in the singles against the Romanian Gloria Pirvanescu, who she had defeated in the final of the national tournament in Mals at the beginning of November. Gruber couldn't adjust to her opponent's game and lost 16:21, 13:21. Gergin Angelov almost made up for this defeat. The strong Bulgarian forced Italy's number one, Rosario Maddaloni, into a three-set match that lasted almost an hour. Maddaloni, who was ranked No. 92 in the world in May, finally won 16:21, 21:10, 21:16 and gave Milan the third and decisive point. The clear victory for Bolzano by Messersì/Cherniavskaya in the final mixed doubles was still important for Bolzano. For this, the SSV gets two points in the table. This means that Bolzano can hardly take away a play-off place.
