SSV Bozen at the European Cup premiere

After twelve years, a South Tyrolean team has once again qualified for the European Cup (official name: European Club Championships). Because the European Cup takes place in Italy, the host country is allowed to field two teams. In addition to champions BC Milano, that is SSV Bozen.

“This is a great honor for us, it will definitely be a highlight in the club’s history,” says section leader Claudia Gruber. The SSV, which has been South Tyrol's most successful team for ten years now, does not want to just be a point provider despite being an outsider. But forecasts are difficult. In the preliminary round the opponents are BC Milano, Lokomotiv Kosice (Slovakia) and Primorye Vladivostock. The Russians were third last year.

Just like in the national Serie A, 5 games will be played per match: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed. Marco Mondavio (captain), the Bulgarian Dimitar Yanakiev and Bruno Stegani for the men and the Czech Zuzana Pavelkova, Erika Stich and the two young hopes Katharina Fink and Maja Fallaha for the women play for Bozen.

The game mode

There are a total of four preliminary round groups, with all teams competing against each other. The top two teams each reach the knockout phase with the best eight teams.

SSV Bozen at the European Cup premiere

From 20th to 24th In June the Talferstädters will play in Milan against the hosts and against teams from Russia and Slovakia. In the first match on Tuesday, the Bolzano team suffered a defeat against Lokomotiva Kosice.
