Mondavio continues winning streak at home tournament

140 players from South Tyrol, Lombardy, Piedmont, Marche and Sicily - including some national players - registered for the 7th Victor Bauzanminton, which is also the oldest Grand Prix tournament in Italy. The game was played in the U19 to U11 age groups as well as in the general class. The most successful club was GSA Chiari from Lombardy with six wins. Host SSV Bozen won three titles, as did ASV Mals, while ASC Berg even triumphed four times. Marco Mondavio wins for the 5th time

Bozen was the most successful club in the general class and one in particular stood out: Marco Mondavio. The 33-year-old won the men's singles for the fifth time. Only in 2013 did he finish in the semi-finals. At the first edition in 2011, only the youth categories were held. Mondavio also triumphed in doubles in 2015. Mondavio has been at the top of Italy since the times of 27-time Italian champion Klaus Raffeiner. Even at 33, he is still one of the five strongest players in Italy. Katharina Fink and Yasmine Hamza celebrated their second Bozen success in the general class in the women's doubles. The two youth national players, who are only 14 years old, were able to prevail for the first time against the experienced pairing of Erika Stich/Lisa Ortner (Bozen/Meran). Hamza also won the mixed doubles in the U15 age group and, together with Martin Chizzali (Kaltern), was the only one to record two class victories. Six years ago, the Grand Prix series was introduced as the highest badminton tournament series in Italy. The premiere took place in Bolzano in autumn 2011. This makes the Bauzanminton - a word combination from the former Latin name for Bolzano, Bauzanum and badminton) - the oldest GP tournament in Italy.
