After silver twice quarterfinals

After successes in the first round and the round of 1, two more Turkish women ended the successful run of Hamza and Fink at the Mediterranean Games. As at the European Championships, Hamza lost to the two-time European Championship medalist Neslihan Yigit. The world number 27 won 21:10, 21:12. “The respect was probably too great,” said SBS head coach Csaba Hamza. After a good start, Fink lost to Ozge Bayrak (BWF No. 106) 14:21, 10:21. Nevertheless, the Mediterranean Games remains an unforgettable experience with the first-ever finals for Italian badminton and for the two women from Bolzano.

On Monday, Hamza has to take the oral Matura exam, and the next day they both go to a training camp in Bulgaria. A two-week training stay in Thailand is also on the program. In July, Fink/Hamza registered for qualification for a World Tour Series tournament for the first time. However, competing in Malaysia is questionable.

Competing in the International Challenge from July 13th to 17th on the island of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean is certain. A tournament in the same category will follow in Mongolia in mid-August. A subsequent appearance at the World Cup in Tokyo is questionable because Fink/Hamza only qualified there in doubles. The focus is on the individual, because only there is the chance of qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Last weekend the youngsters from the SBS - Südtirol Badminton School were also completely convincing. Marco Danti (Badminton Überetsch) made it to the semi-finals at the Serbia U17 International (Badminton Europe Circuit). In doubles he even reached the final with Ruben Fellin (Sport Promotion Bolzano). It was Fellin's first medal in this age group.

After the historic silver medal in doubles, Yasmine Hamza (18) and Katharina Fink (19) reached the quarter-finals in the singles at the Mediterranean Games in Oran (Algeria), as expected.
