Record participation at “Bauzanminton”

Exactly 191 players from all over Italy took part in the sixth edition recently. Host SSV Bozen won this “Mini Italian Championship” with four out of eight individual victories and set some remarkable records.

The SSV Bozen players won the most important title: the individual general class. This is not a new feeling for Marco Mondavio. It was the 32-year-old's fourth tournament victory in Bolzano. Erika Stich doesn't have that many wins. In return, she can now call herself the oldest Grand Prix winner in Italy. The bronze medalist at the European Masters Championship is 49 (!) years old. In the generational duel, Stich gave 16-year-old Lisa Sagmeister from Mals no chance in the final.

Stich was also happy about her daughter Yasmine Hamza's tournament victory. The U13 Italian champion won the U15 singles in a dominant manner. Katharina Fink gave another talent test. Although still eligible to play for the U15, she qualified for a GP final in the U17 age group for the third time in a row. And of all places, the 14-year-old was able to win for the first time at home. Fink defeated Hannah from Merano in three sets in the final.

The remaining individual victories went to Jonas Inversen (BC Milano/U17), Matteo Bassetti (GSA Chiari/U15), Luca Zhou (ASV Mals/U13) and Anna Sofie De March (ASV Mals/U13). ASV Mals was the most successful in the double competitions.

“This was the most successful edition to date for our club,” says Bolzano section leader David Gruber. “Thanks to the active help of numerous parents, the organization worked very well. I was particularly pleased that the stands were also very full. This is a sign that interest in our sport is increasing."

Record participation at “Bauzanminton”

It was the very first Grand Prix tournament in Italy and can now confidently be described as the largest: the Bauzanminton, a word creation from Bauzanum (original name for Bolzano) and badminton.
