South Africa is a good place

At the weekend, the SSV Bozen players sensationally won the doubles at the world rankings tournament in Pretoria. In the final they beat the South Africans Megan De Beer and Johanita Scholtz in three sets and achieved something historic. It was the first South Tyrolean doubles triumph at a world ranking tournament since 2007, and the first for women in 25 years.

Fink's performance in the individual tournament was similarly surprising. There she eliminated a top 100 player for the first time in her career on her way to the final with African champion Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan. Only in the final did she lose to the highly rated Kate Foo Kune.

Three days after these historic results, Hamza and Fink also won big at the South Africa Junior International. Both confidently reached the finals in singles and doubles. The only surprise: Hamza unexpectedly defeated Fink in the final with 21:8, 21:17. This victory was also historic in a way, as never before had a player from Italy triumphed in singles at a junior world rankings tournament.

“The standard was modest for an international junior tournament, but it was good for the girls to go into a tournament as favorites and win. “You have to learn that first,” says coach Csaba Hamza, summarizing the successful South Africa week for the two flagships of the SBS (South Tyrol Badminton School).

The two tournaments in South Africa also bring Fink and Hamza a big step forward in the junior world rankings. Fink moves up to 35th place in the singles, Hamza into the top 60. In the doubles they are among the best 50. Fink is the sixth best European woman born in 2002. Both players are tesserated for SSV Bozen.
