After the upcoming season, “Chief Wahoo,” a broad-smiling Indian with red skin, will no longer be used. The club announced this on Monday (local time). There have been cartoon-style protests against the chief for years. The depiction of a “redskin” is considered racist and offensive by native peoples in the USA. "Major League Baseball is committed to building a diverse culture," said MLB boss Rob Manfred about the decision: "Last year we discussed the use of Chief Wahoo with the Indians. The club agrees with my position that the logo is no longer suitable." In 2014, Chief Wahoo had already been sent to the second row; the club's official main logo is, as before, a capital C. The franchise used the C from 1900 to 1928, and only then was the Indian head introduced. The club name is not changed. Chief Wahoo merchandise will continue to be sold, and fans will be allowed to wear the logo in the stadium in 2019 and beyond. The Indians made that clear.
