Yankees fail early

Record champions New York Yankees failed in the play-off quarterfinals. The 27-time champion narrowly lost to the Boston Red Sox 3:4 and lost the best-of-five series 1:3.

Boston got off to a good start and took a 4-0 lead thanks, among other things, to a home run from Christian Vazquez. Things got exciting again in the last inning when the Yankees, who had suffered a 1:16 loss in the series the day before, scored twice and got within 3:4. It is Boston's first appearance in the American League Championship Series since 2013.

In the semifinals (best-of-seven), Boston will now face defending champion Houston Astros. In the second semifinal, the Milwaukee Brewers will face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
