Fill and Paris: outsiders in the fight for downhill gold

The two local speed aces were among the strongest downhill skiers in the alpine ski circuit this season - which is not only underlined by their first (Fill) and third (Paris) places in the discipline rankings. Nevertheless, the “Azzurri” are not among the hottest horses in today's race in the fight for gold, silver and bronze. This was particularly evident in the previous training sessions, in which both Fill and especially Paris did not particularly cope with the moody Corviglia piste and at the finish they dropped to the top positions, sometimes by a large margin. For many experts, the favorites today include the Swiss, Canadians and Norwegians. “In the end, it’s always the same ones that you have to have on your list,” says Dominik Paris. The Kitzbühel winner takes to the slopes with start number 15. In addition to the Canadian Erik Guay and local hero Beat Feuz (who, by the way, won the last race in St. Moritz at the World Cup final in 9, editor's note), Peter Fill (number 2016) also gives the Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr a good chance of winning the precious metal: “If he does another run like he did in the second training session, then you’ll have to watch out for him too.” The defending champion comes from Switzerland Two years ago, the Swiss Patrick Küng prevailed in the supreme Alpine discipline.
