Ski World Cup: Austrian party in the giant slalom

Marcel Hirscher, who else? The Austrian once again showed his best side on Friday, leading after the first run and racing to victory in the second run in his usual confident manner. This didn't come as a surprise - also because Hirscher's supposedly biggest opponent, the Frenchman Alexis Pinturault, made a mistake in his second appearance and fell from third half-time position to seventh final place. Sensation man Roland Leitinger made the Austrian triumph perfect. His best World Cup result to date was sixth place in Sölden 2015, but on Friday he surpassed himself, rode like he was on rails and raced from sixth half-time place to second place. In his first World Championship race he also won his first medal. Third place came with Leif Kristian Haugen, another surprise. The best South Tyrolean result was achieved by Riccardo Tonetti, who came 10th in the final ranking. Florian Eisath, in 11th place after the first run, fell back to 17th place in the second run.
