Stuhec lives up to the role of favorite - South Tyrol's downhill skiers are far behind

Ilka Stuhec, who had already dominated the training sessions on St. Moritz's local mountain Corviglia, fully lived up to her role as favorite. She had a flawless run and finished in 1:32,85 minutes. Her first world title was thus secured. “This is a very emotional moment. I knew it could be enough for a medal, but I didn’t really realize it yet,” explained Stuhec after the race. The closest to the Slovenian was the surprisingly strong Austrian Stephanie Venier, who was four tenths slower than Stuhec and took second place ahead of US superstar Lindsey Vonn. Goggia narrowly misses the podium The unlucky person at the World Cup downhill was Sofia Goggia. A serious mistake in the lower part of the route cost the Azzurra a medal, possibly even World Cup gold. The 24-year-old had to make do with an ungrateful fourth place. However, the two South Tyroleans were unable to intervene in the fight for the top positions: Verena Stuffer lost a lot of time in the upper part of the route and ended up in 19th place.
