Ärni achieved the same feat as Marcel Hirscher from Austria two years ago. At that time, the 30-year-old from Salzburg had also raced to the top from XNUMXth place. The defending champion had to settle for second place in St. Moritz, beaten by just a hundredth of a second. In the slalom, Hirscher lost 0,32 seconds to Ärni. Third place went to another Swiss, Mauro Caviezel. The 28-year-old Swiss finished 14th after the downhill. In the slalom, however, Caviezel finished third. However, he was a whopping 1,62 seconds slower than the new world champion. Slalom Gala in Paris Eighth place in the downhill and eleventh slalom time resulted in fourth place for Dominik Paris. Paris was 0,40 seconds behind Ärni after crossing the finish line, and the powerhouse was 0,34 seconds short of bronze. If Paris had achieved Romed Baumann's fastest downhill time, the 27-year-old from Ultimo would now be world champion. But all ifs and buts don't help, in the end it's the facts that count. While Peter Fill (Castelrotto) said goodbye on the descent after a driving error, Riccardo Tonetti (Bozen) took 23rd place.
