Biathlon World Cup: Relay gold goes to Russia – Italy in 5th place

The men's relay competition did not disappoint the numerous spectators along the route and was extremely exciting right up to the last lap. After the final standing stage, Russia and France and, a few seconds behind, Austria and Germany took to the track in two head-to-head duels. In the fight for first place, Anton Shipulin managed to keep Martin Fourcade (France) in check and thus secured the gold medal for the Russian team. Behind the silver medal winners France, the host nation Austria was finally able to celebrate: in the final lap, Dominik Landertinger overtook the German Simon Schempp and secured the much celebrated bronze medal for the Alpine republic. For Austria it was the first precious metal in this world championship. Italy was close to the podium for a long time The Italian relay team showed a strong race. Lukas Hofer was the first runner on the cross-country ski trail for the “Azzurri”. The Montaler needed a total of two spares for his ten shots and handed over to Dominik Windisch in sixth place (+19,6 seconds). The second South Tyrolean in the group showed an excellent performance and led Italy to second place without making any mistakes at the shooting range. Giuseppe Montello only needed one reload afterwards, but was unable to keep up with the strong competition on the cross-country ski trail and fell back to sixth place (+31,6 seconds). Final runner Thomas Bormolini made two mistakes in the prone stage, but made no mistakes in the standing stage and finally crossed the finish line in fifth place - a more than satisfactory result for the Italian relay team. The Biathlon World Championships in Hochfilzen will conclude on Sunday with the mass start races for women (11.30 a.m.) and men (14.45 p.m.). The Russian men's relay team won the gold medal at the Biathlon World Championships in Hochfilzen (Austria). Anton Shipulin and Co. prevailed over France and Austria over 4x7,5 kilometers. Italy's quartet finished the race in fifth place.
