Vogt defends her title - Runggaldier falls back

The defending champion from Germany flew on 98,5 and 96,5 meters in Finland and won with 254,6 points ahead of the favored Japanese Yuki Ito (252,6) and Sara Takanashi (251,5). High-flyer and World Cup dominator Takanashi has to wait for the first individual title of her career. Only the South Tyrolean quartet qualified Evelyn Runggaldier and Manuela Malsiner for the decision. Runggaldier impressed in the first round with tenth place, but then fell back to 18th place with a botched second jump. "I jumped off too late. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this has happened to me. I just wanted too much," said Runggaldier after the competition. Ahead of her was the newly crowned junior world champion Malsiner, who finished 15th in the rankings. Her younger sister Lara Malsiner and the experienced one Evelyn Insam were eliminated after the first round.

The ski jumping program at the World Championships in Lahti continues on Saturday with the men's individual jumping. Alex Insam, a South Tyrolean, is also competing here. The women will be back in action on Sunday in the team competition.
