The 18-year-old reigning world champion was awarded 81,06 points. Carolina Kostner from Val Gardena came second behind Medvedeva in the women's short program. Their teammates Valentina Marchei and Ondrej Hotarek finished the short program and the pairs free skate in second place.

The medal decision in the team event will be made on Monday, with the men's free skate, the women's free skate and the ice dance free skate. After the second day of competition, Italy is only one point behind third place.
