One shot costs Wierer the medal he longed for

One thing in advance: What Wierer delivered up to the last shooting was her best performance to date at the current Winter Games. At the shooting range she brought down twelve targets at her usual hellish pace and consistently stayed in the top four on the cross-country ski trail. However, during the showdown at the last standing stage, the 27-year-old from Puster missed the target once, and the medals that had previously been within reach were now suddenly miles away. Wierer had to go into the penalty loop and therefore let several rivals pass. In the end she reached the finish line in sixth place. As a small consolation, she received her second Olympic diploma.

Vittozzi sprints to fourth place On the last section, Wierer had to let go of her teammate Lisa Vittozzi, who made two shooting errors but offered an unbridled performance on skis. Although she no longer came close to the podium places, she made a clear statement in fourth place. In any case, Wierer and Vittozzi seem prepared for the mixed competition and the final season. Kuzmina makes everyone look old Anastasiya Kuzmina, Darya Domracheva and Tiril Eckhoff were even better than the two “Azzurre” on Saturday. Kuzmina in particular gave an outstanding performance. She was already clearly on course for gold halfway through the race, continued to expand her lead and even a mistake in the last shooting didn't allow her to be caught up. The Slovakian won by almost 20 seconds over the long-running Belarusian Domracheva. This is Kuzmina's third precious metal in South Korea, the first made of gold. The bronze went to the Norwegian Eckhoff, who secured third place despite two shooting errors.
