From near-death to Olympic bronze: The miracle of Mark McMorris

The slopestyle competition was won by 17-year-old teenager Redmond Gerard. The most moving story of the competition comes from Canadian Mark McMorris. In March 2017, he fell heavily during a training session and crashed into a tree. “I was pretty sure I was going to die,” he said after the brutal crash in which he sustained serious injuries. In addition to a broken jaw, a ruptured spleen, a broken arm, a pelvic fracture and rib fractures, a lung also collapsed.

He almost paid with his life in this crash. But McMorris is a fighter. After his life was out of danger, he posted from his hospital bed: "I'm so, so grateful that I'm still alive, it was almost on the brink." Eleven months later the unbelievable happened: Mark McMorris climbed to the Olympic Games the podium, wins bronze. And thus created his own personal miracle.
