World record and tears: Schoenmaker shapes furious finals

The 24-year-old won gold in 2:18,95 minutes, beating Denmark's Rikke Møller Pedersen's previous record from 2013 by 16 hundredths of a second. In general, the top international swimmers delivered exciting races and fast times.

The backstroke swimmer Evgeny Rylov was also faster than anyone before on this distance at the Olympics in his triumph over 200 meters in 1:53,27 minutes.
