Strong start to the Olympics for Italy's volleyball players: They celebrated a clear 3-0 win against Russia, with the individual sets - with the exception of the first section - also being clear at 25:23, 25:19 and 25:14. Italy has therefore taken a significant step towards the knockout phase.

“Russia is strong in the block, we have to be careful”: Raphaela Folie left this message before the game. Although the Missian didn't play in Tokyo on Sunday (she's not yet at 100 percent physically), the 30-year-old loudly cheered on her teammates from the bench. In addition to Egonu, the two attackers Pietrini (10 points) and Bosetti (12 points) also put in a strong performance. The next duel is on Tuesday “When you make your debut, you never know what to expect,” explains coach Mazzanti. “There were a lot of emotions in the game. We hadn't played together much before, so I didn't know what to expect. We played well in the break phase, but we still have room for improvement during the rally. The difficult games will help us.”
