New sports bring action at the Olympics

For many surfers, skateboarders and climbers, the inclusion of their sport in the Olympic program is a great enrichment.

But there are also critical voices: the mode causes dissatisfaction among some climbers, for example. For the Summer Games, a three-fight system was introduced consisting of lead (lead climbing), bouldering and speed climbing, which is frowned upon by some climbers. Some athletes, including the well-known American Alex Puccio, are voluntarily foregoing the major event. In particular, athletes who practice their discipline very ambitiously and not just as a hobby see the new Olympic status as largely positive. There are also hopes for positive effects in other sports, such as improved training conditions or greater attendance through participation in Tokyo. The Olympic organizers are hoping that the hip disciplines and their cool representatives will inspire even more young people to take part in the games.
