Overall, the South Tyrolean lost almost two minutes, but at least no further positions. It was a 10 kilometer running route. Flora Duffy from Bermuda used this to her advantage. She distanced herself from all of her opponents and confidently won the gold medal. Behind them, the American Katie Zafferes and the British Georgia Taylor-Brown fought for silver, with the latter narrowly prevailing. Steinhauser finally showed a decent running performance and finished the competition in 20th place. Alice Betto was the best Italian and finished in a strong seventh place.
