Silvia Weissteiner: “The heat will be my finale”

The 33-year-old guest took part in the 2008 Games in Beijing, where she was eliminated after the preliminary round. Qualifying for the final round in London would therefore be a great success for Weissteiner: “I have been preparing for the games in Vipiteno and Ratschings over the past few weeks and the training went very well. Of course my focus is on reaching the final, but the competition is strong and it won't be easy for me. That’s why the preliminary heat will be my personal final,” explains Weissteiner in an interview with SportNews. What will be different in London 2012 than in Beijing 2008? “Beijing was very beautiful. However, I thought it was a shame that as a woman you couldn't move around freely, which will certainly not be the case in London. “In addition, the Chinese mostly didn’t understand English, so it was difficult to get somewhere by taxi, for example,” says the 33-year-old. Nevertheless, the guest in London won't have much time to explore the city. She will set off on Saturday, compete in the preliminary heat on Tuesday and possibly the final over 5000 m on Friday. The journey home is already planned for Saturday, August 11th: “We will be staying in London for a week, so there won't be much free time, especially if I make it to the final. If not, I would like to watch some competitions, especially athletics competitions, as some other sports venues are outside of London. I would also have been interested in the swimmers’ races, but most of the decisions have already been made there,” concluded the South Tyrolean athlete.
