Eva Lechner remains unlucky at the Olympics

17th in Beijing, 17th in London and now 18th in Rio de Janeiro - Eva Lechner just can't really get going at the Olympic Games. The 31-year-old from Eppan, who traveled to South America without high expectations after a mixed World Cup season to date, was denied the hoped-for jump into the top field.

Lechner gritted his teeth on the technically demanding circuit just outside Rio, but was never able to catch up with the medal ranks. After the first lap, Lechner was still in 14th position, but then she lost ground and finally crossed the finish line in 18th place. At the end of the almost 30 kilometers she was 8,30 minutes behind the leader.

"My back hurt"

“I struggled with back pain right from the start, and then I fell in the middle of the race. At that point, nothing was possible moving forward,” concluded Lechner.

At the front, the Swede Jenny Rissveds won the race. She stole the show from the big favorites around Jolanda Neff, Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa and Annika Langvad. Thanks to a strong finish, Rissveds won by 37 seconds over Poland's Maja Wloszczowska. The bronze medal went to Canada's Catharine Pendrel.

Eva Lechner remains unlucky at the Olympics

Eva Lechner has been one of the world's best mountain bikers for years, but she has never been able to shine at the Summer Games. This was not the case on Saturday in Rio, when she missed out on the top spots in the women's cross-country race. Gold went to Sweden's Jenny Rissveds.
