South Tyroleans in Rio: This is Maicol Verzotto

He had to worry about his accreditation for a long time. Maicol Verzotto has had his Olympic ticket in the bag since June 24th. He will compete in the individual tower competition in Rio and will follow in the great footsteps of legendary South Tyrolean divers such as Karl and Klaus Dibiasi and Giorgio Cagnotto.

Maicol Verzotto celebrated his great success last year at the World Championships in Kazan when he took third place together with Tania Cagnotto in the mixed synchronized diving on the 3m board. Verzotto showed strong in 2013. At the World Championships in Barcelona he finished seventh in synchronized diving from the tower alongside Francesco Dell'Uomo and narrowly missed out on precious metal with the Roman in fourth place at the European Championships in Rostock. In the individual, i.e. in the discipline in which he also competes in Brazil, he came eighth in the continental title fights. This year Verzotto finished ninth at the European Championships in London. Now, taking part in the Summer Olympics will certainly be the highlight of his career in Rio.
