South Tyroleans in Rio: This is Tania Cagnotto

It's been 16 years since Tania Cagnotto took part in the Olympic Games for the first time. As a shy teenager, she came 3th on the 18m board in Sydney. In the decade and a half that followed, the woman from Bolzano mutated into Europe's best diver of all time, which is impressively underlined by 20 European championship titles. There are also five silver medals and four bronze medals in continental title fights.

Cagnotto's greatest moment so far came last year at the World Championships in Kazan, when she became world champion in the non-Olympic 1m board. Three silver and six bronze medals round out her incredible trophy collection, which is now just one medal short of an Olympic Games medal. In London four years ago she was close to it, but missed third place by just two tenths in the individual and finished fourth. Cagnotto also came fourth in synchronized jumping alongside Francesca Dallapè – 2,7 points behind bronze. For Tania Cagnotto, Rio is her fifth Olympic participation after Sydney (2000), Athens (2004), Beijing (2008) and London (2012).
