Domracheva wins pursuit competition – Oberhofer eighth

Domracheva started ninth, but her lead over the Slovakian Olympic sprint champion Anastasiya Kuzmina was “only” 32 seconds. The 27-year-old from Minsk almost completely made up for this on the first loop. After the first shooting test, Domracheva had caught up by more than 20 seconds and came to the shooting range as the leader together with Kuzmina in the second shooting test. While Domracheva shot clean, Kuzmina scored a ticket. That's why Anais Bescond (France) and the speedster Dorothea Wierer started pursuing Domracheva. Oberhofer left the shooting range in sixth place, both South Tyroleans had two clean shots.

However, at the first standing attack, Wierer and Oberhofer rejected their chance of winning precious metal. Oberhofer made a mistake once and fell back to 13th place, Wierer even missed twice and left the stadium in 19th place. However, there was no change in Domracheva's commanding lead because the Belarusian made no mistakes for the third time in a row. Kuzmina took second place, Norwegian Tora Berger went into the penultimate lap in third place.

Domracheva made a mistake in the last shooting, but was able to easily defend her commanding lead and was the first to cross the finish line after the final lap. In 29.30,7:37,6 minutes she prevailed, 42,0 seconds ahead of Tora Berger (Norway). The Slovenian Teja Gregorin (+15), who fought her way up from XNUMXth place to third place, took bronze.

Oberhofer ended up in eighth place

Karin Oberhofer finished the pursuit competition in eighth place, 1.07,1:28 minutes behind Domracheva and once again achieved an excellent result. The mistake in the third shooting will annoy her because the 25-year-old from Eisacktal will be XNUMX seconds behind Gregorin - roughly the time it takes for a penalty loop. Nevertheless, Oberhofer can be satisfied with her performance.

Dorothea Wierer ended up in 17th place. She was 1.32,5:48 minutes behind Domracheva. Michela Ponza (St. Christina) scored three tickets and came 40th. Curiously, Nicole Gontier made three more mistakes and also started 49 seconds after Ponza and almost finished ahead of the Val Gardena woman. She finished XNUMXth.
