Bitter disappointment in snowboarding: all South Tyroleans were eliminated

First it was the women's turn in the snowboard park near Krasnaya Polyana. There, the Japanese Tomoka Takeuchi set the best time in the two qualifying rounds. She was followed by the two Swiss Patrizia Kummer and Julie Zogg. The Italian Corinna Boccacini was only able to qualify for the final round in 16th place. Meanwhile, Nadya Ochner was denied entry into the final phase. The Eisacktal native didn't get past 1th place with a total time of 59,88:26.

The icy slopes claim their victims Especially among the men, the South Tyroleans fell far short of expectations. The closest person to qualifying was Roland Filehner, who ended up 72 hundredths short of qualifying in 16th place. The veteran from Villnöß took 18th place. The three other South Tyroleans had a pitch-black day: Christoph Mick took 28th place, Aaron March and Meinhard Erlacher were removed from the rankings. Mick was hindered by his opponent in the first round and was allowed to compete again. On his second attempt he fell, just like March and Erlacher after him.

However, the "Azzurri" were not the only participants who revealed difficulties on the icy course. The two qualification winners from Russia, Andrey Sobolev and Vic Wild, were spared from falls.

Sorrow and game take gold

The medal decision was made in the early hours of midday. In the men's category, local hero Vic Wild took gold ahead of the Swiss Nevin Galmarini and the Slovenian Zan Kosir. In the women's category, the Swiss Patrizia Kummer prevailed ahead of the Japanese Tomoka Takeuchi and the Russian Alena Zavarzina.
