Pertl is amazed, Vinatzer is fantastic

The warm temperatures had forced those responsible to take tough measures before the race: because they were afraid that the piste would deteriorate significantly, it was decided that the 15th would open the second round - and not the 30th, as is traditional. That counted the first Passage inevitably occurred, causing the athletes to take even greater risks. The result was countless failures and many spectacular rides.

Despite the warm temperatures, the piste appeared compact. This meant that the starting numbers at the back also had the chance to set a good time. Like Adrian Pertl, who entered the race with start number 8 and set a fantastic time in the snow. He kept the international competition at bay and led for the first time after halftime. Alex Vinatzer provided the next proof of the perfectly holding piste: after the difficult January, the guy from Wolkenstein exploited his full potential, skied like he was on rails and was only 14 hundredths of a second behind the leader at the halfway point. “I recently returned to the flat terrain, found the feeling there again and now I’m here,” said Vinatzer happily.

The leading field didn't give anything away on the sharply turning course. Led by Pertl, 14 runners classified within one second. Behind Vinatzer are Sebastian Foss-Solevåg (3rd), Kristoffer Jakobsen (4th), Clement Noel (5th) and Henrik Kristoffersen (6th). They didn't make any mistakes either, so they are just behind Pertl. Despite an imperfect run, Marco Schwarz (8th) can do anything - just like Alexis Pinturault in 7th place.

And Manfred Mölgg? The veteran had trouble finding his rhythm, opened up a big gap of 1,40 seconds and missed the top 15. His teammate Stefano Gross did better and was even in the lead at the second split, but then gave up. For Giuliano Razzoli, the race was also over after a few seconds, although he still managed to cross the finish line in what was possibly his last World Championship ride.
