8. Transalpine Run begins with South Tyrolean victory

In the women's race, Elisabeth Egarter and Petra Theiner secured victory. The Sesto and Marlingen women, who won the overall ranking with different partners in 2009 and 2010, completed the first section of the route in 5:35.35 hours and distanced the second-placed duo from the Mountain Heroes team, Gitti Schiebel and Ildikó Wermescher (D/HUN), by 3.41 minutes . The Austrians Jutta Buschmann and Kristin Berglund came third (+18.06,1).

In the Senior Master class, last year's winners from Team Latsch, Rudi Schöpf and Hans Hörmann, took third place on the podium. They crossed the finish line in St. Johann 3.04 minutes after the winning team Allgäuspeed.de with Rolf Schlachter and Eugen Sinz (5:22.18,2). As the second best South Tyrolean duo, the Ahrntal team with Peter-Paul Steinhauser and Hermann Schaiter came in fifth place, 31.50 minutes behind.

In the mixed teams, series winner Irene Senfter (Lana) and mountain running specialist Stefan Tschurtschenthaler (Sexten) also came fifth. The victory went to the Swiss Gaby Steigmeier and Roman Nef (5:26.01).

Tomorrow the second stage will take place over 34,80 km and 1849 m altitude from St. Johann to Kitzbühel.

8. Transalpine Run begins with South Tyrolean victory

The 8th Transalpine Run started in Ruhpolding, Bavaria, on Saturday in the rain. The first stage of the Alpine crossing on foot led over 49,60 km and 1663 meters in altitude to St. Johann in Tirol. At the start there was a South Tyrolean victory and a podium finish.
