Daniel Jung is the new horseshoe tour king

Daniel Jung's premiere at the most extreme run in South Tyrol couldn't have gone better. The former MTB specialist improved the record set by three-time winner Alexander Rabensteiner (Klausen), who decided not to start this year, by almost 18 minutes. The athlete from the Gore Running Wear team's lead could possibly have been even higher if he hadn't gotten lost for a short time early on Saturday morning shortly before Penser Joch. In dense fog, even the organizer's very good markings were of no use - visibility was only a few meters at times.

But even so, Jung, who had already set off from Waltherplatz in Bolzano shortly after the start on Friday evening at 20 p.m., was pleased with his own performance when he reached the finish on the Bolzano Talferwiesen at 13.34:1 p.m. in sweltering heat. How great Jung's dominance was in the fourth edition of the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace is underlined by the fact that second place Peter Kienzl (Hafling/Mountain Spirit) was 41:20 hours slower than the day's winner. The podium on the original distance was completed by Marco De Salvador (Bozen/Montanaia Racing) and Lorenz Illmer (Partschins), who arrived at the same time after 50.45:XNUMX hours.

Irene Senfter from Lana won the women's event. The Jenesien Soltnflitzer athlete reached the finish line after 23:56.10 hours.

A surprise winner at the South Tyrol Skyrace

Only very few people had the winner of the South Tyrol Skyrace (69 kilometers/3930 meters in altitude) on their list: Anton Eisenstecken from Neustift (SG Eisacktal) crossed the finish line first after 8:27.40 hours. For the 44-year-old from Eisacktal, it was a special victory because it was the first time he had competed in a race that was longer than the marathon distance. Eisenstecken lost out to two people from Bolzano, namely Domenico Nicolazzo (athlete team) and Hans Röll, who took part in the Skyrace for the third time and broke the 8-hour mark for the first time in 58.05:9 hours.

A local hero from Sarn, however, was ahead among the women. It is Maria Kemenater (Lauffreunde Sarntal), who came out ahead of her compatriot and teammate Regina Spiess. Kemenater arrived after 9:56.59 hours, Spiess was 10:01.54. Monica Copello Rössler from Bolzano took third place in 10:36.15.

Reiterer dominates the Sky Marathon

Andreas Reiterer delivered a very strong performance on the marathon distance, which was offered for the first time this year at the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace. The 24-year-old Haflinger completed the 42,2 kilometer route with 2863 meters of altitude in 4:01.41 hours. His brilliant climb to the Rittner Horn was impressive, where he arrived after a record-breaking 2:12.10 hours. But no wonder, Reiterer already won the premiere of the Horn Attack this year. This is a duathlon, so the route must first be completed by running and then on touring skis.

Ivan Paulmichl from Laatsch was able to match Reiterer's pace in the South Tyrol Sky Marathon up to Oberbozen. Then the 38-year-old from Vinschger had to let something go and finally arrived in Sarnthein after 4:27.19 hours. Josef Blasbichler took third place. The 47-year-old Klausner is a veteran of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace, as he won the relay with Helmuth Mair once (which was only held in the first year), won the South Tyrol Skyrace in 2014 and came second in the middle distance last year Place.

The winner of the marathon premiere, however, is Birgit Bracket (Gherdeina Runners). The 45-year-old from St. Christina retained the upper hand in the duel with Annemarie Gross (Meran/ASV Telmekom Team). Bracket won in 5:16.04 minutes, Gross, who won the first three long-distance editions of the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace, was 11.10 minutes slower. Lorenza Bortoluzzi was happy about third place. The Trentino native, who runs for the Maddalene Sky Marathon team, won the South Tyrol Skyrace last year.

A total of 519 athletes from 19 different nations registered for this year's edition of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace.
