That was the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace 2018

For three days, the more than 800 registered extreme mountain runners from 35 different nations were in the spotlight at the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace 2018.

On the 121 kilometer long original route with an altitude difference of 7554 meters, 127 athletes reached the finish. With 199 starters, this corresponds to a finisher rate of 64 percent. This means that 6 percent more athletes reached the goal than last year.

In the South Tyrol Skyrace (69 km/3930 hm), 137 athletes out of 148 starters reached the finish, which corresponds to a strong rate of 92,5 percent. The results were even better at the South Tyrol Sky Marathon, where 217 participants from 220 starters arrived. Here the rate was an incredible 98,6 percent.

The South Tyrol Sky Trail (27 km/1063 hm), which all 135 mountain runners who started successfully completed, turned out to be a groundbreaking success. The organizers introduced this shortest route to introduce athletes to trail sports.

OC boss Josef Günther Mair was satisfied when taking stock at the awards ceremony: “Now we are just happy that there were no major injuries. I would particularly like to praise the race management and the 80 men from the mountain rescue, CNSAS and emergency services, who did a great job. I would like to thank our 500 volunteers from the bottom of my heart for their tireless efforts.”

The South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace will also take place next year on the last weekend in July, from July 26th to 28th, 2019.

On Sunday afternoon, the renowned sporting event, which takes place on the Horseshoe Tour in the Sarntal Alps, came to an end with the traditional award ceremony in Bolzano.
