The Maddalene 50K ultra mountain marathon is coming soon

The organizing committee around Sandro Martinelli has completed the preparations for the mountain runs on Nonsberg. The route of the ultra mountain run on the Aldo Bonacossa high-altitude hiking trail was confirmed a week before the start.

Two routes to choose from The Maddalene 50K is held on a panoramic course of 55 km and 3.500 meters in altitude. The mountain runners reach the mountain peaks of Monte Pin (2.420 m) and Monte Zoccolo (2.560 m) on varied mountain paths. The Aldo Bonacossa high-altitude hiking trail on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino takes runners back to the finish in Rumo. There is also a shorter competition on the program, the Maddalene 30K with 34 km and 2.400 meters of altitude.

Some top athletes have registered for the mountain runs on Nonsberg, and more local heroes will be confirmed in the next few days. One of the favorites is Georg Piazza from Val Gardena, who achieved the highest podium finish on the SkyMarathon route last year. The winner of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace Josef Thaler will also be at the start. The trail runner from Ultental is in top shape and will be at the forefront. The experienced Fulvio Dapit is also part of the team. He has already won four times on the Maddalene Mountains and holds the SkyMarathon route record. Among the women, Edeltraud Thaler from Lanan and Cristiana Follador are among the favorites.

Filippo Bianchi and Simone Costa will be in charge of the short run. For the women, the race is still completely open. Local hero Lorenza Bortoluzzi will only decide on her start in the next few days. Target time has been increased “We are currently finalizing preparations for this new challenge. Together with the volunteers, the mountain rescue team and the fire department, we decided to extend the target time by one hour. This means the runners have more time to complete the race,” said Martinelli. The runners have a total of 13 hours to complete the long distance of 55 km. The target time for the 34km Maddalene 30K is 11,5 hours.

The countdown to one of the most beautiful mountain runs in Trentino-South Tyrol is running. The starting signal for the Maddalene 25K ultra mountain marathon will be given on Sunday, August 50th.
