Three South Tyrolean podium places in Samnaun

Still firmly in South Tyrol, more precisely: Ultner Hand is the senior master category of this year's Transalpine Run, in which both team members must be at least 100 years old. Oswald (50) and Richard Wenin (54) celebrated their third day win in a row today. With a time of 1:43.09 (the times of both runners are added together in the mountain sprint), they took a further 5.12 minutes off their closest rivals, the German team Jörg Schreiber/Thomas Miksch, but are still more than 45 minutes in the overall ranking in their category second place behind Schreiber/Miksch. Despite the exceptionally short route and the cloudy, wet weather, today's fifth stage was once again dominated by two teams: the brothers Marc and Oscar Casal from Andorra and the two overall leaders Daniel Jung and Ivan Paulmichl from Vinschgau. The former clinched their third win of the day in 1:29.41, while Jung/Paulmichl ended up in second place, 5.02 minutes behind. The Germans Matthias and Marcus Baur crossed the finish line in Samnaun in third place today. Jung and Paulmichl continue to lead the overall standings, although their lead over Casal/Casal has halved to just over five minutes compared to yesterday.

Gross/Kröss defend their overall lead in the Master Mixed category After two victories in the Master Mixed category, Annemarie Gross and Franz Kröss came in second. They lost 6.02 minutes to the German team Cäcilia Schreyer and Stephan Tassani-Prell, but remain in the lead in the overall standings with a comfortable lead of over 37 minutes over today's winning pair. The Germans Feuerstein-Rauch/Muntenasu came third today, while Annelis Felderer and Markus Planötscher were the second South Tyrolean team to finish fifth. They crossed the finish line today 11.40 minutes behind and thus hold on to fourth place overall. Although the organizers succinctly described it as a “rest day”, today’s mountain sprint in Samnaun was tough: 6,23 kilometers had to be covered, the first two of which were on a largely flat route. 700 of the total 731 meters in altitude fell on the approximately four kilometer long, steep section leading through Schrofen terrain up to the finish at Alp Trida, which is 2499 meters high. Tomorrow there is another “normal” stage on the program, which runs over 37,1 kilometers from Samnaun to Scuol.
